WPL 2024 playoffs qualification scenario- On 10 march, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by a margin of one run in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 match. After the Mumbai Indians, Delhi became the second club to earn a postseason spot with the narrow victory.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, DC amassed 181/5 in yet another thrilling last-ball match, led by Jemimah Rodrigues’ 58 off 36. Bangalore replied, but came up just short, ending on 180/7. A fantastic knock by Richa Ghosh (51 off 29) kept RCB in the hunt right up to the very end.
Delhi Capitals have won 5 out of 7 matches and lost 2. Similarly, Mumbai Indians also won the same number of matches but due to the net run rate of Delhi Capitals being higher than Mumbai Indians, Delhi has retained the 1st position in the point table and Mumbai has retained the 2nd position.
For these two teams to enter the final directly, they must win the last two matches. Either of these two teams will enter the finals.
Mumbai Indians will play the last game of this league phase against Bangalore. Judging from one aspect, it can be seen that this match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore is the most important match.
Mumbai Indians will look to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by very few runs or more wickets and try to improve their net run rate, to enter the final directly.
Bangalore will try to maintain the 3rd position by defeating Mumbai Indians. If Bangalore can hold on to third place, they will qualify for the Eliminator. But Bangalore will have to look at UP’s game with Gujarat if Gujarat can beat UP then Bangalore will retain the third position if UP can beat Gujarat by a big margin then the net run rate will improve a bit. On the other hand if Bangalore loses against Mumbai then UP Warriorz will enter to play in Eliminator. And if both teams lose in the end, Bangalore will play the eliminator match due to its higher net run rate.
Gujarat’s last match of this league phase against Delhi will be played on March 13. Gujarat Giants women has already been knocked out of the playoff race. If Gujarat Women can beat Delhi Capitals then Mumbai Indians will have to beat Bangalore then Mumbai Indians can go directly to the finals.
