Vinicius Jr scored a hat-trick in the first half as Real Madrid were crowned Spanish Super Cup champions after a 4-1 demolition of bitter rivals Barcelona in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.
Jude Bellingham was key to the opening goal, playing the ball in behind the high line of Barcelona for Vinicius to race on to and round goalkeeper Inaki Pena to score.
Three minutes later it was Rodrygo timing his run in behind to perfection to expose Xavi’s side before crossing for Vinicius to slide in at the back post.
The winger scored twice in the first 10 minutes to put Carlo Ancelotti’s side in control in Saudi Arabia.
Lewandowski’s thunderous volley from the edge of the area after 33 minutes dragged Barcelona back into the contest but the Catalans were the architects of their own downfall moments later.
Araujo red card earned for a second booking after a silly foul on Vinicius only gave Madrid more comfort, and by the end.
Rodrygo struck Real’s fourth from a rebound in the 64th minute.they were simply pinging it around, strolling to one of the easiest Clasico wins in recent memory.
“We have not shown the level required for a match like this,” Barcelona manager Xavi said.
“We played our worst game. We weren’t comfortable at any point. Madrid hurt us on the counter. I apologise to the fans because it was hard for us to compete and we showed our worst side.”
Victory was Madrid’s third straight in El Clasico and gave them a 13th Spanish Super Cup Final success – one behind Barcelona’s record 14 wins.
