IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans’ Star Pacer Mohammad Shami Ruled Out Of IPL 2024 Due to Ankle Injury – Report

Gujarat Titans' Star Pacer Mohammad Shami Ruled Out Of IPL 2024 Due to Ankle Injury

Mohammad Shami ruled out of IPL 2024 due to left ankle injury. Mohammed Shami has not been seen on the pitch since the ODI World Cup. He reportedly won’t be able to participate in the IPL 2024 this season. For the entire season, this Indian pacer has been out of commission. The Gujarat Titans supporters are definitely shocked by this news.

The India’s star pacer did not take part in the South Africa Test series after failing a fitness test under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. The Indian pacer has not played cricket since the loss against India in the 2023 World Cup final.
The 33-year-old pacer was ruled out of the Indian squad for the first two Tests against England due to an ankle injury.

An official of the Indian Cricket Board gave this news. The cricketer who did not wish to reveal his name told the media, “Mohammad Shami went to London in the last week of January. There, Shami took a special injection in the ankle. The doctors said that after three weeks he will be able to run. But that injection did not work properly. So there is no other option but surgery. Shami will go to London very soon. So there is no question of him playing in the IPL this time.”

The Indian Cricket Board does not want to take any risk with Mohammad Shami. So he is advised to undergo surgery. The official added, “Shami should have undergone surgery immediately after the injury. Because, injections or rest may not give long-term results. Shami is an asset to the Indian team. So the board does not want to take any risk with him. Shami will have to undergo surgery. We will try to field him as soon as possible.”
The statement reads, “India pacer Mohammad Shami Ruled Out Of IPL 2024 due to left ankle injury which would require surgery in the UK: BCCI source tells PTI.”

This latest setback not only calls into question the efficacy of the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) injury rehabilitation programme, but also casts doubt on Shami’s ability to play in the upcoming series, particularly against New Zealand and Bangladesh at home.
Mohammad Shami recently received the Arjuna Award. For India, Shami has claimed 229 Test wickets, 195 ODI wickets, and 24 T20I wickets. With 24 wickets, he has claimed the most in One-Day Internationals played in India. This is the highest in a World Cup by an Indian bowler. In the World Cup, he is the Indian bowler with the most wickets.

Gujarat Titans (GT) has performed exceptionally well since joining the league in 2022. They were the champions the year before and were very nearly champions again the year before.
Mohammad Shami had a major role in both of GT’s seasons of success. In the 2022 IPL, the 33-year-old bowler grabbed 20 wickets, in the 2023 IPL, he took 28 wickets at an average of 18.64.
The much-anticipated IPL 2024 is set to begin on March 22 and will be held entirely in the country despite the coinciding general elections, league chairman Arun Dhumal told PTI on Tuesday.
