After successfully chasing India’s lead of 190 runs, England’s batsmen gave India a target of 231 runs. England’s score of 420 runs was largely a result of a brilliant innings of 196 runs by Ollie Pope.
Ravichandran Ashwin, the most successful Indian bowler, took 3 wickets for 68 runs. Ravindra Jadeja grabbed 3 wickets for 88 runs. Jasprit Bumrah climbed 2 wickets with 28 runs. 2 wickets for 33 runs by Axar Patel.
Rohit Sharma in under pressure after coming down to bat with a target of 231 runs to win in Hyderabad. India lose their first wicket as Tom Hartley dismisses Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal tries to flick the shot across the outside leg-stump line, but is caught by Pope at short leg.
After Yashasvi Jaiswal’s brilliant first innings of 80 runs, he scored only 15 runs in the second innings.
Shubman Gill was dismissed by Tom Hartley. He made a significant impact on the pitch after playing a terrific innings to keep England in the match. Pope dives low to take the catch at sealy point while Gill defends.
Subman Gill got a run in the first innings but had to return empty-handed in the second innings.
Rohit Sharma came into bat with his aggression, started well but ended poorly. He hit seven fours in the second innings and scored 38 runs before being dismissed lbw by Tom Hartley.
To deal with the situation, Axar Patel was brought after losing three (3) wickets for sixty-three (63) runs. Right-handed batsman Lokesh Rahul paired with lefty all-rounder Axar Patel. Wicket support was one of the factors that contributed to England’s spinners’ success on day four. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the spinners got the turn and bounce early on.
Tom Hartley single handedly dismissed the Indian batsmen. At the end of the fourth day Tom Hartley had 7 wickets for 62 runs. Joe root and Jack Leach took one wicket each.
When all the batsmen were getting out one by one, KS Bharat and Ravichandran Ashwin took the lead of the team. KS Bharat got out after scoring 28 runs off Tom Hartley. Then the team’s run was 176 for 8 wickets. On other side Tom Hartley stamped out Ravichandran Ashwin for 28 runs. Then India team’s run was 177 for 9 wickets. The last wicket of the Indian team fell by 202 runs. England won IND vs ENG first test by 28 runs. Ollie Pope won the man of the match crown in the first test match for his brilliant innings of 196 runs.
