New Zealand vs South Africa 2nd Test, Day 2- South Africa’s bowlers make a comeback in the third Test against New Zealand. Kiwis batsmen could not cope with South Africa’s bowling at home.
To level the Test series, South Africa will need to set a big target in the second innings and get the New Zealand batsmen out quickly.
New Zealand trail by 31 runs. South Africa scored 220 for 6 after batting all day on the first day in Hamilton. The Proteas lost the remaining four wickets to add just 22 runs on the second day today. As a result, South Africa’s first innings ended with 242 runs.
Kiwis could not respond to South Africa’s short run in the first innings. The Kiwis were bundled out for just 211 runs by Dane Paterson and Dane Piedt. The hosts finished the second day’s game 31 runs behind.
Unbeaten South African batsman Ruan de Swardt scored his first career half-century and added just 9 runs. Swardt returned with 64 off 156 balls after being bowled by William O’Rourke at the start of the day.
Shaun von Berg came out to bat today and added only 4 extra runs. He was the victim of William O’Rourke for 38 runs. Proteas were all out for 242 runs.
Devon Conway failed in the 2nd Test like the first Test. Tom Latham and Kane Williamson took the team forward with a pair of 74 runs after the return of opener Devon Conway (0 for 3). Both of them returned from the quota of 40 after falling prey to Pidet. Tom Latham scored 40 runs from 104 balls, Williamson scored 43 runs from 108 balls.
In the middle order, Rachin Ravindra and Will Young made a partnership of 59 runs off 116 balls. Rachin Ravindra scored 29 runs off 73 balls. An innings of 36 runs from 73 balls came from Will Young’s bat. Neil Wagner dropped to number 10 and scored 33 off 27 balls. New Zealand lost their last 7 wickets for just 66 runs. As a result, New Zealand’s first innings ended with 211 runs. As the young and inexperienced Proteas team overtook hosts New Zealand with a 31-run advantage in the first inning, off-spinner Dane Piedt recorded his career-best statistics of 5 for 89.
