New Zealand vs South Africa first Test, Day 2- On the first day of the current first Test match between New Zealand and South Africa, centuries from Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra saw their side reach 258/2 at stumps. The Blackcaps were asked to bat first and lost two early wickets, but Williamson and Ravindra put up a strong partnership and finished the innings without losing at 112* and 118*, respectively. For the Proteas, Tshepo Moreki and Dane Paterson claimed one wicket each.
All-rounder Ruan de Swardt dismissed Kane Williamson for 118 in the 9th over early in the morning on Day 2. Ruan de Swardt took finally the first Test wicket. Ravindra started from where he ended on day one.
On the second day of the first Test match of the series against South Africa on Monday, Rachin Ravindra achieved his first double century, continuing his incredible comeback to Test cricket. Midway through the second session at Mount Maunganui, Ravindra reached the milestone by scoring Proteas skipper Neil Brand with a single.
The left-hander, who started the day 2 on 118, scored 200 off 340 balls, hitting 21 fours and a six. On the second day of the first Test, Ravindra struck an incredible 240 to help New Zealand maintain their dominance against South Africa.
Despite Kane Williamson’s 118 and Ravindra’s double, South Africa’s captain Neil Brand finished with 6 for 119.
That put an end to Williamson and Ravindra’s 232-run partnership off 472 balls. Daryl Mitchell was caught and bowled by Neil Brand for 34 runs.
Tom Blundell was dismissed for 11 runs by Ruan de Swardt. Glenn Phillips could not give more than 39 runs. In the end Matt Henry deserved a brilliant innings of 27 off 9 balls.
This allowed New Zealand to reach 511 in their opening innings. With two wickets from Kyle Jamieson, South Africa finished at 80 for 4.
In response, South African openers Edward Moore (23) and Neil Brand (4), who were both making their debuts, held their own for about nine overs.
End of Day 1 of NZ vs SA first test match, South Africa at 80/4 after 28 overs, David Bedingham is unbeaten on 29 runs and Keegan Petersen is unbeaten on 2 runs in the first innings.
